Sky Retreat Wedding | Blue Ridge Mountains in Boone NC

What happens when two incredible veterinarians say “I do!” in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains? You get a STUNNING wedding full of sweet pups and picture-perfect views! Amber and David’s wedding at Sky Retreat was one for the books… truly such a paw-fect day. Let’s get right into it!!

Looking for a bright, beautiful mountain venue near Boone? Look no further than Sky Retreat! It’s not your classic mountain venue with dark colors, but one that is light and airy! The main house, where Amber and David had their reception, is full of windows, all white and has a balcony.

When Amber and David toured the venue, they loved it so much they jumped on the first available date… planning a wedding in just around two months! With no hike needed to get there, Sky Retreat provides the most incredible views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Fitting for a fall wedding, the color scheme was full of light colors. Amber’s bridesmaids all wore sage green dresses and the florals were stunning with lots of greenery! With the help of her bridesmaids, Amber was such a beautiful bride wearing a dress that had lots of lace details.

David and his groomsmen all wore light-colored suits and he was sure to include his love for animals in the special day by wearing socks with his dog’s faces on them and dog cufflinks. A true animal lover!

One of my favorite parts of any wedding day? A first look! Because it was a super windy day, Amber and David did their first look behind the trees! Not only is this such a sweet, intimate moment for a couple, but it’s also a great way to ease any wedding day nerves. Of course David had a precious reaction to seeing Amber as she was glowing in her wedding dress, but she also loved seeing his doggy details in his outfit!

Sure it was a windy fall day, but this crew made it work! Holding down the arbor with sandbags, everything turned out perfect. The flowers on the arbor were so detailed and fit the fall vibe so perfectly, while this couple made sure to make the entire day so dog-friendly. Amber and David had a “biscuit bar” for all dogs attending and each groomsmen actually walked down the aisle with a dog of their own!

Although David had seen Amber before the wedding in their first look, he still lit up when he saw his bride walk down the aisle. They exchanged vows and said “I do” in front of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and it was a beautiful ceremony!

Brides looking to have a mountain wedding, have your hair pulled back or be prepared for some strong wind-blown effects in your photos! We had lots of beautiful blowing hair in Amber and David’s photos, and it honestly fit the day so well. These photos turned out absolutely stunning with the mountains in the background… another great reason to check out Sky Retreat for your wedding day venue!

Can we take a second for the dogs?! These two veterinarians were SURE to include all their furry friends in their big day. Their three black labs, Finn, Bandit and Katara, and their little hound dog, Daisy were a huge part of the wedding. We were sure to take photos of Amber and David with all members of their dog family. It was so much fun to photograph and I know these are photos they will cherish for forever!!

Much of Amber and David’s bridal party actually went to veterinary school with them, carrying the dog-friendly theme throughout all aspects of the day! All of their pets were at the wedding and it was so sweet to watch each groomsmen walk a dog down the aisle during the ceremony. This group had so much fun and it was so obvious how much everyone was excited to celebrate the couple!!

With live music as the sun set over the the Blue Ridge Mountains, all of Amber and David’s friends and family gathered in the main house for the reception! This couple thought of so many sweet details to include on their day — a fall-themed guest book, cards for them to write the couple any advice and wishes, and a table to remember family members that have passed.

For all their cakes, Amber and David chose Nothing Bundt Cakes (a crowd-pleaser) to celebrate! After they shared their first dance as husband and wife, they shared some cakes, had some speeches, and then everyone hit the dance floor and this crew truly danced the night away!

As the night came to a close, Amber and David shared one last special dance together alone. Shortly after, everyone gathered outside for what could be possibly the world’s windiest sparkler sendoff… but it was beyond beautiful!

Seriously, this was such a fun wedding. From the dog details to the mountain views, everything from start to finish was perfectly planned! The day after the wedding, I actually took a hike with Amber and David to Rough Ridge to take some day-after portraits. This is a great option if you want a stress-free photo moment, but also if you are wanting to take some photos in a separate location!
